Werewolf or lycanthrope (the λυκάνθρωπος Greek: λύκος, lykos, "wolf" and άνθρωπος, Anthropos, "man"), is a being legendary, originated in Greek mythology, according to which a man can turn into a wolf or something like a wolf at full moon nights, only returning to human form at dawn.

Such legends are very old and are rooted in Greek mythology. According to The Metamorphoses of Ovid, Lycaon, King of Arcadia, he served meat Arcade Zeus and this as punishment, turned him into a wolf (Met. I. 237) .One of the most famous characters was the boxer Arcadian Damarco Parrasio , Olympic hero who took the form of wolf nine years after a sacrifice to Zeus Liceu, legend attested by Pausanias geographer.

According to most modern legends, to kill a werewolf is necessary to hit him with made of silver artifacts.

The figure of the werewolf is a monster that blend human forms and wolf. According to legend, when a woman has seven daughters and then a man, this last child will be a werewolf.

When born, the child is pale, thin and has the ears a little long. The forms of werewolf appear from the age of 13. On the first night of Tuesday or Friday after his 13th birthday, the kid comes out at night and in the silence of night turns into a werewolf for the first time and howls at the moon, like a wolf.

After the first transformation in every night of Tuesday or Friday, the man turns into a werewolf and begins to visit 7 parts of the region, 7 church yards, 7 towns and 7 crossroads. Wherever he goes, whips the dogs and turn off all the lights you see, and howling terrifying way.

When it is almost dawn, the werewolf returns to man. According to folklore, to ending the werewolf situation it is necessary that someone beat loudly in his head. Some versions of the story say that the monsters have a preference for unbaptized babies, causing families to baptize their children as soon as possible.
