surgeonfish

surgeonfish

The surgeonfish (Acanthurus chirurgus) is a shallow-water coastal nectarine fish that measures about 35 centimeters.

This fish has diurnal habits and feeds mainly on algae and organic debris found in compacted sands or on rocky bottoms. They form small groups and are often found with barnfish (Acanthurus bahianus), which also feed on algae.
